This Saturday Nolla's external 180° Sea Terrace kicks off at Café Carusel. Between 9.30 PM and 11.30 PM we've got a free shuttle transport from Carusel to Nolla, where the Parisian Jennifer Cardini headlines a Helsinki Pride party. Here's a quick Q & A with Jennifer, who has over 15 years of experience on the European dance music circuit.
You're playing at one of the official Helsinki Pride parties at Nolla and it seems you played at a Gay Pride party at Rex Club last weekend as well. How was the party in Paris?
– The party in Paris was great! We had Hard Ton playing live and Cormac from WetYourSelf as well, we really had fun!
Speaking of Rex, you're one of the residents there. How would you describe the club to someone who hasn't been there yet?
– Well, Rex Club is a techno sanctuary – it doesn't pretend to be anything else than that, which I think is cool. The only thing that matters there is the soundsystem and the music!
Your mix CD Feeling Strange came out on Kompakt a couple of years ago. How did you end up working with the label in the first place? Any plans to release something more on Kompakt in the future?
– My connection with them started in 2000, when I licensed a couple of tunes from the label for my first mix CD called Electroniculture. After that, I got involved with their booking agency, which I'm still on today. I really consider Kompakt as my family. I'm actually working on my first album and would be really proud if they would release it!
Can you reveal us something about the record?
– I will try to keep an open mind and be as honest as possible!
This year you also started a label of your own called Correspondant. Is there a musical policy for the label? What's coming up next?
– The policy is no policy! I'll try to go for everything that touches me. I've planned a few EP's for the next months: one from Clement Meyer with a strong remix by Abe Duque and another from a French newcomer called Tomas More.
Jennifer Cardini Live Mix - MARCH 2011 by Correspondant
Are there certain factors you look for when you're searching for music to play in your sets? Any new producers that have impressed you lately?
– I actually have the same way of thinking as for the label, I go for emotions all the time. I need to be touched – that's what leads my choices in music and life! For me, Nhar is one of the best producers. Check out his track called Innerplace!
Anything else coming up soon you want to mention about?
– Watch out for the next Correspondant releases! A good way to stay tuned is to check my official Facebook page and my website. We are launching a Correspondant FM Podcast featuring live and dj sets from the Correspondant parties and the artists signed on the label soon. There's some new residencies coming up as well!
What is your soundtrack of choice for the day after partying?
– The new Connan Mockasin album.
